On Friday, September 13, 2024, the Initiative for Better Health-Uganda (IBH), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, launched the Empuumo Marathon 2024 at Kijjungu, opposite Nyamityobora Health Center II in Mbarara City. The official launch unveiled the running kits for the marathon, scheduled for October 27, 2024, and highlighted the theme: “Kick HIV/AIDS Out of South Western Uganda by 2030.”

Initiative for better health launched empuumo marathon 2024 at Kijungu market in Mbarara city.
Empuumo marathon focused on fighting HIV/AIDS in western region.
The EVENT: 27th October 2024
This event will take place on 27th October 2024 at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara city.
The Rwampara district woman member of parliament Hon molly Asiimwe who was the guest of honor at the launch said the marathon will serve as a reminder to the public that HIV is still in Uganda and that they should fight it.
She said most times when there is no awareness people tend to forget that the disease is still in Uganda saying that’s why empuumo marathon has been launched.
The chairperson organizing committee of empuumo marathon Kajungu Rosette has said this run was placed after a report that linked in April this year that AIDS has increased in youth and the government is focusing on ending HIV by 2030.
Kajungu asked people to be part of this marathon saying the funds collect from running kits will help to skill the youth especially from hotspot places.
